This study will explore the complex landscape of diplomatic and consular law of the UAE, and analyze its applications and challenges within the dual frameworks of international law and Islamic law. The UAE, a country at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, has emerged as a dynamic player on the global stage. Its diplomatic and consular practices reflect not only the requirements of contemporary international relations, but also the influence of Islamic values on which its societal fabric is based. The research begins with a comprehensive historical overview, tracing the development of UAE diplomacy from its formative years to its current status as a major player in regional and global affairs. It delves into the unique identity of the UAE, shaped by historical and cultural influences, and examines how Islamic traditions shape its diplomatic behaviour. Central to this study is the analysis of the UAE’s diplomatic and consular law in the context of international legal standards. It will investigate the extent to which the UAE’s practices are consistent with international treaties, conventions and customary international law, with a particular focus on aspects such as diplomatic immunity and consular services. At the same time, it will explore the impact of Islamic law on Emirati diplomacy. By examining the ethical and moral foundations of Sharia, the study will scrutinize its influence on the state’s foreign policy decisions, diplomatic negotiations, and consular services. The challenges arising from harmonizing Islamic law with international standards are addressed, along with its implications for diplomats and consular officials. Case studies and comparative analyzes will highlight the practical challenges faced by diplomats and consular staff in the UAE. These real-world scenarios embody the legal ambiguities and complexities of diplomatic and consular law.
